Gentamicin is an aminoglycosides group antibiotic produced by Micromonospora purpurea with bactericidal action by setting the 30S ribosomal subunit of the bacterial cell, causing disruption of RNA messenger, which results in the synthesis of polypeptides atypical or inadequate toxic bacterial metabolism. Gentamicin is active both in the multiplication phase and in the rest of germs.
Spectrum of activity is wide including Gram-negative bacteria (Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp, Escherichia coli, Klebsiela spp, Enterobacter spp) and Gram-positive (Staphylococcus spp, Streptococcus spp.)
Gentamicin is effective through local applications of primary and secondary eye infections, particularly those caused by bacteria resistant to beta-lactamic antibiotics.
Dexamethasone is a synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory effect 30 times more powerful than hydrocortisone. Is very active in local applications. Association with otic solutions reduces healing time due to anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties.More info
Dogs and cats.
GENTOCIN PLUS is indicated in dogs and cats to treat eye infections (conjunctivitis, keratitis, keratoconjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, blepharitis and blepharoconjunctivitis) caused by bacteria sensible to gentamicin.
DOSAGE, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
GENTOCIN PLUS – is administered by instillation into the conjunctival sack 1-2 drops, 2-4 times per day until healing. Do not exceed 7 to 10 days of treatment.
CONTRAINDICATIONS, PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS
Do not use in animals suffering from corneal ulcers and those with glaucoma. Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients. Occasionally it may cause local irritation or allergic reactions. In this case discontinue the use and apply appropriate treatment.
Safety of the product has not been established during pregnancy and lactation.
Concurrent use of other ototoxic substances and / or nephrotoxic can potentiate ototoxicity and / or nephrotoxicity of gentamicin.
Prolonged treatment with GENTOCIN PLUS may cause increased intraocular pressure, can cause posterior subcapsular cataract or glaucoma. Corticosteroids or antibiotics may promote long-term treatment superinfection with fungi or other resistant organisms.
At high concentrations topical application of corticosteroids can inhibit corneal epithelialization.
