Amitraz is a substance with cidal effect, which acts by contact and inhalation, killing the free parasites on the bee’s body by blocking enzyme and nervous functions.
Parasites die in maximum 3-4 days, depending on the quantity of active substance accumulated.
Amitraz is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and removed from most tissues in a few days. It is rapidly metabolized and excreted through urine. The metabolization of amitraz is qualitatively similar in mice, rats, cats, dogs, cattle and human, starting with the hydrolysis of N-N’ methyl formamidine and 2.4 bimethyl formamilide. The final product is acid 4-amino3-metilbenzoical that is rapidly conjugated and excreted. Amitraz is poorly absorbed through skin.More info
VARATRAZ is recommended to treat varoosis in bees. It is applied as fumigations, through the bee entrance, to all bee families, throughout the entire active season. The most efficient treatment is during autumn, when there is no brood on the lid. The first treatment will be made during spring and will be repeated every 10 days. The next treatment will be made after the locust honey extraction and after lime honey extraction. Another treatment will be made in august, after harvesting sun flower honey. In the fall there will be made three treatments every 7-10 days. For not perpetuationg varoosis in the apiaries it is very important that at least the final fall treatment is made in absence of brood. Treatments will be applied only when outside temperature is over 12°C, (the recommended temperature span for administration is 14 – 18°C) bees are not gathered in a ball. Treatments are applied when most of the bees are in the beehive in the morning or at dusk).
POSOLOGY, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION
Product – liquid – drip with a dropper on the cardboard ribbon, as it follows:
– multi-floor beehive: 5.5 – 6 mg s.a./beehive
2 drops product /beehive;
– beehive Dadant: 8.5 – 9 mg s.a./ beehive
3 drops / beehive;
– horizontal beehive: 14.25 – 15 mg s.a./ beehive
5 drops / beehive
If the families are gathered for hibernation and blinded, with full separating blind, the quantity of Varatraz used will be:
– multi-floor beehive: 2.5 – 3 mg s.a./ half a beehive
1 drop / half a beehive;
– beehive Dadant: 5.5 – 6 mg s.a./ 2 thirds of beehive
2 drops / 2 thirds of beehive;
– horizontal beehive : 8.5 – 9 mg s.a./ half of beehive;
3 drops / half a beehive.
If in a horizontal beehive there are two families, each will be administered 3 drops of VARATRAZ. For complete burning of cardboard, this must be bended on length or harmonica folded. The cardboard must be lit at both ends, it must be introduced (without flame) in the beehive, through the bee entrance, that is immediately closed for maximum 15 minutes.
CONTRAINDICATIONS, PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS
VARATRAZ must not be administered except for the treatment of varoosis in bees. Do not administer in combination with other antiparasites. Do not increase the number of VARATRAZ drops, other than prescribed, it may cause different degree intoxication of bees. Exceeding doses, closing time of bee entrance as well as environmental temperature, may cause adverse reactions.
Honey: not applicable
Honey harvested during treatment with VARATRAZ will not be used for human consumption .
Keep in original package, well closed, in special dry places, temperature higher than 15°C, keep away from open fire and direct sunlight.
